About Bölle

WHY BÖLLE IS MORE THAN JUST BASKETBALL

BÖLLE is your community for basketball. In our camps, we support children and young people and teach them self-confidence, discipline, and a sense of responsibility through sports. We are also involved in humanitarian projects in Guinea, West Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world, where we have already built several basketball courts. We advocate for equal opportunities, offer less privileged children and young people prospects, and support them in their development.

The Beginning

The journey begins with an inseparable friendship

Two boys from Zurich, who met in kindergarten and spent every free minute on the basketball court. They played countless 1-on-1 games, argued over points, stayed longer in the gym after practice, and always strived to improve. There was constant competition between them, but a healthy one. They challenged each other while also standing up for each other. That's where it all began.

University of Wisconsin-Superior

Vid is going to college.

Later, Vid moved to the USA, where he played Division III college basketball. It quickly became clear to him that he was willing to invest everything in the sport. In the USA, he discovered a new dimension of structure, discipline, and professionalism. This environment showed him what was possible when high standards were consistently upheld. The realization was clear: There are no limits to what you can achieve.

The very first camp

College Basketball Camp Zurich

When Vid returned to Switzerland, he brought back more than just memories. He had a new understanding of the game and training. The idea was simple: make the level and professionalism he had experienced in the USA accessible in Zurich. He contacted former teammates, convinced them to come to Switzerland, and that's how the first camp came into being.

Early Growth

When small suddenly became big

Already in its second year, the camp grew significantly. The enthusiasm quickly spread. The energy, intensity, and structured training approach convinced both children and parents. A small initiative turned into a serious project. In the second year, almost three times as many motivated and enthusiastic participants registered.

Malik's Journey to His Roots

The Birth of the Guinea Project

While the camps in Switzerland continued to grow, a clear idea emerged. Basketball had created structure, perspective, and community in Zurich, so the question arose why this shouldn't be possible elsewhere as well. In Guinea, however, the conditions are very different. Many children grow up in difficult circumstances; poverty and a lack of infrastructure hinder true equality of opportunity. Through Malik's family roots, the connection was personal. Since 2021, basketball courts have been built in Conakry and Kindia, financed by camp revenues and donations. This created a place for hundreds of children to play, grow, and simply be children.

The First NBA Star

Malik Monk x BÖLLE

Another milestone followed with the first active NBA player at the big BÖLLE Summer Camp. With Malik Monk as the star guest, BÖLLE made a strong statement. In a country without a significant basketball scene, it was almost surreal to bring an active NBA player to a camp in Switzerland. This year, over 220 children participated, accompanied by more than 15 international coaches from seven countries.

Guinea Project Documentary

BÖLLE Film at the "Picadilly" cinema

Together with Anica Götte, a short documentary film was created about the construction of the basketball court in Kindia. The film follows the journey from the initial idea to fundraising and implementation on site, showing what was made possible with the support of the community. Over 120 friends, family members, and supporters of the BÖLLE Community gathered for the premiere at Kino Piccadilly. Together, they not only watched the film but also further promoted and strengthened the project. It was a day that showed that BÖLLE's impact extends far beyond the playing field.

Milestone Achieved - Legendary Status

Isaiah Thomas X BÖLLE Camp

Isaiah Thomas, a former NBA All-Star, personally attended the hall, trained with the children, shared his experiences, and brought a level of play to Zurich rarely seen in Switzerland. At the All-Star Game, he played against all the BÖLLE coaches, scoring over 30 points—a moment no one in the hall will forget. What once started with 17 children evolved into a camp with international appeal, several hundred participants, and coaches from various countries.
